The goal of this project was to synthesize data on land use, insecticide use, and insecticide toxicity to generate a novel dataset describing the extent and intensity of insecticide use at the county level for the continental U.S. from 1997 to 2012

Steps in this project include:

1. Generate and examine data on acute toxicity of insecticides to the honey bee, Apis mellifera
   • Query the EPA ECOTOX database for LD₅₀ values
   • Clean ECOTOX data, relate to USGS pesticides
   • Aggregate LD₅₀s and fill in gaps
2. Prepare area data
   • Download & extract acreage data
   • Clean/process data on agricultural land
3. Synthesize insecticide data, area data, and toxicity data
4. Analyze and visualize trends
   • National and regional trends/drivers
   • County maps
   • Compare trends by region
5. Conduct sensitivity analysis
   • Interpolation and LD₅₀ quality
   • Analyses repeated with high pesticide estimate
